HBP surgery is a highly complex procedure, where excellence in tumor classification and staging, combined with the onco-surgical strategy, clearly determines patient outcomes. Liver transplantation is the best treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease. Organs for transplantation are a scarce commodity, and a healthcare system with efficient organization for organ detection and procurement is required. In this regard, Vall d'Hebron Hospital is able to obtain liver grafts from deceased donors (in cardiac arrest and without cardiac arrest) and from living donors, in addition to performing graft reduction and split transplantation techniques.

In this line, the Advanced Training course in HBP surgery and liver transplantation, is a training activity as an observer, aims to expand and advance in a structured manner the training of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery both in the medical-surgical aspects as well as in the area of research, in accordance with the training in HBP Surgery of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA).
