Specialist training residencies in hospitals in the Spanish State Specialist training residencies in hospitals in the Spanish State are generally short They are aimed at specialists from the Spanish State and at foreigners working in Spanish health centres. They are exclusively aimed at vocational training and retraining. They are no for substitute, wholly or partly, for regulated training and are not taken into consideration when obtaining a qualification. The goal is for trainees to become familiar with the organisation of a certain process or unit or to learn very specific tasks or skills. Before they start their residences, specialists must have a definite training plan and a vocational plan from the Hospital in charge that arranges and supervises their activities. Application and incorporation process First step It is crucial for applicants to fill in the form so they can start the procedure. The procedure needs to be carried out at least two months before the desired dates. If you know the professionals you would like to do your residency with, contact them first to check their availability. It is essential that you attach to the form the letter from the Teaching Commission in which the rotation is authorized with the name and surnames, the speciality, the rotation unit, the rotation dates, the signature of the head of studies and the seal of the Teaching Commission. The photo you select must be passport size and have a white background. Second step The Hospital’s Teaching Committee will assess your application and send you a reply as soon as possible. If you are accepted, collect the following documents and send them to formacionexterna@vallhebron.cat, along with a copy of your national ID (DNI), a copy of your specialist qualification, a report from the person in charge at the centre you provide your services at, accepting and recommending your residency. Third step You will not be able to work in the Hospital until you receive formal authorisation, which will only be valid during the specified dates. Fourth step Go to the Teaching Department on the day you start working at the Hospital, to complete the appropriate procedures. Remember that it is essential for you to take a photocopy of our professional association’s membership card. You will also have to sign a letter of engagement stating that you know, understand and accept the terms and conditions established by the Hospital. Requirements Be a health sciences specialist. Have a working relationship of a professional nature with a public or private Spanish institution at the time of undertaking the placement. Conditions The maximum duration of a residency is six months. Authorisation is only valid for the dates agreed to. Professionals’ relationship with Vall d’Hebron University Hospital They will have access to the hospital for the exclusive purpose of training. Acceptance of a residency does not establish any kind of employment relationship with the hospital and no financial compensation or payment will be made by the Hospital during the training period. Residents will be subject to the Hospital's internal rules and regulations and to the specific rules of the department or unit they train in. Residents must have a health card or, if they are foreign-national professionals, an accident-insurance policy and an insurance policy that covers medical care. The Hospital shall be exempt from any claim, regarding common illness or accident that may occur as a result of their stay in the centre’s facilities, given that the residency is exclusively for training. The Hospital reserves the right to revoke the residency permit at any time, if it considers any of the established conditions to have been breached. Activities of the professionals at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. Professionals will have the training timetable they agree to with their supervisor, depending on the programme and with the approval of the head of the department or the nursing supervisor. They will not be able to sign any clinical documents or take charge of the care for hospitalised patients, outpatients or emergency patients. The activities they are involved in will be planned, led, supervised and assessed by the professionals providing services in the healthcare unit their residencies are based in. Residents shall require consent from patients before they can be present or take part in their diagnosis and treatment through clinical interviews, examinations or performances of procedures of any kind. It will be obliged to know and respect the current rules on the protection of personal data (RGPD, EU Regulation 2016/679 and LOPD 3/2018, of 5 December) and to guarantee professional secrecy both during stay in the hospital and afterwards. They must be members of a professional association and have a civil-liability insurance policy taken out that covers the risks they may incur as a result of the activities carried out during the training residency.
